No no no no, that shit wasn’t luck.
Yeah maybe
This was divine intervention. You know what “divine intervention” is?
I think so. That means that God came down from Heaven and stopped the bullets?
That’s right! That’s exactly what it means. God came down from Heaven and stopped these motherfucking bullets.
I think it’s time for us to leave, Jules.
Don’t do that! Don’t fucking blow this shit up! What just happened here was a fucking miracle!
Chill, Jules, this shit happens.
Wrong! Wrong, this shit doesn’t just happen.
Do you want to continue this theological discussion in the car or in a jailhouse with the cops?
We should be fucking dead my friend! What happened here was a miracle and I want you to fucking acknowledge it!
Alright, it was a miracle. Can we go now?

Introduction

In this collection I'm sharing games featuring lucky mates. Games where I was able to checkmate my opponent in an unexpected or lucky way. Just some quick and simple games, that are fun. If you want to become better at chess, these games will probably not help you much. Enjoy!

Divine Intervention

A game played against my friend Pouchkine75. It was the first time we played a live game it became immediately clear we both wanted to win. The game was fun to play, very challenging, incredibly exciting and totally exhausting. My heart rate near the end of the game was approaching 180 beats per minute.

The opening phase

While not a flawless opening for either of us, it was okay overall. My position was solid and I had move space. I felt confident and  was happy with my position.

The middle game

Slowly, but steadily my position improved and by move 25 I had a dominating position. According to Stockfish the position had an evaluation of around + 9 to + 10. By now my opponent had less than 2 minutes while I still had more than 3 minutes on the clock. What could possibly go wrong? What could possibly go wrong?

The end game

What can I say. I had dominant position that was virtually impossible to lose. Somehow I got stuck in the closed position and didn't see a way through. Instead of confidently breaking through and overrunning my opponent, my nerves got the better of me and I wasted too much time. And suddenly I was the one low on time and in serious trouble. I still had a winning position, but no time to win before my clock ran out. I had no other option than to pray for a miracle.
