2024/04/02 DPA: "Pin Passant"

Black to move.

No pieces are hanging but Black has pressure on the long h8-a1 diagonal.

But even if he can get the c3 Knight to move, he can't prevent the White King from escaping to d2.  ie 1. ... b4  2. axb4 axb4  3. Nxe4 Qxb2+  4. Kd2 Rd8+  5. Ke1 Rxe1+  6. Kxe1 Rd7+  7. Ke1.

Better is to use the other diagonal:  1. ... Bh6, pinning the Queen.  2. f4 exf3 e.p. [en passant; no, this isn't a bug in the solution] and while it's true that Black's Queen is undefended, White's Queen cannot capture it because of the pin.
