Never Give Up In Chess!
*Letting everyone know, this blog was written in the middle of February, even though it is published in March.*
We've been told too many times, to never give up in life. In chess though, that is certainly true! No matter what the situation is, whether it be on the board, clock, or both, you shouldn't give up!
STALEMATE
All of your pieces might be gone, and your king might be stranded in the middle of your board, your opponent ready to checkmate you. But all of a sudden, you draw? How?! Well, you can thank stalemate from saving you from the jaws of defeat.
In this position, White suddenly blunders, and now, the position is stalemate!
Besides being stalemated, there are many other reasons why you shouldn't give up!
WHEN THE OPPONENT IS DUMB AND DOESN'T KNOW BASIC MATING PATTERNS (kinda long, isn't it?)
I recently played a 10|0 game. Of course, as a mere 1600 player, there were MANY blunders in the game.
In this game, I was winning, but of course, I managed to lose that advantage. Then, I made a terrible blunder. I decided to hold on.
On move 78, after Kh1, I knew I was hopelessly lost. But I decided to play on, and so I sacrificed my rook for the pawn.
I was hoping he wouldn't know how to mate with a rook + king vs king, but I knew that probably wouldn't happen, because this was a 1550+ opponent.
Turns out, I was wrong. He did NOT know how to mate with a rook and king vs king, and so after a few moves of going back and forth, the game turned out to a draw.
Finally, I am going to show you one last game that I played.
WHEN PLAYING BULLET (I know, I know, I shouldn't play bullet, it's bad for you, but who cares?!)
Please note, this is a bullet game. The things that happen in this game are common in bullet games.
So this game was a 30 second game, so you can normally expect a TON of blunders.
Early on in the game, I lost my queen by playing a stupid move. This was a 30 second game, so hopefully I could count on time to win.
Fortunately I did, so let this be a lesson for everyone, even if you are winning on the board, you might be losing on the clock, and that might lead to your downfall.
Anyway, that's the end of this blog, thanks for spending some of your time reading this!
