Intro for new readers: All the experts tell you how to beat other people. I'm not great at chess, but I'm the only one telling you how to beat me.

Which are better: bishops or knights?

There are plenty of arguments on Chess.com about it, and plenty of adherents on both sides. If you're even-handed about it, you're supposed to like bishops in open positions and knights in closed.

I like to complicate the controversy even further. I think two bishops are superior to two knights, but one knight is much better than one bishop.

But why argue? It's up to your personal preference and what weapons you like to use. I work a lot better with knights.

It's probably due to my lack of board vision. I have trouble keeping track of long diagonals, but I love finding knight forks.

What can be better than something like this?

Only one thing: the royal fork.

If I'm in a losing endgame, and all I have is a bishop and maybe some pawns, I'll resign. But as long as I have a knight, I'll continue in the hope of a fork. Take me out of my comfort zone by targeting my knights.
