Tips for Sacrifices
Hi Everyone!
For this post I have decided to focus on the topic of sacrificing. Everyone wants to play exciting moves and give up a piece to give an awesome checkmate like the champions, however, whenever we ourselves try to do the same it usually doesn't work out the same way does it. Below are a few tips.
- Don't sacrifice until you are absolutely sure it will work. (obviously).
- If you see a sacrifice that you think will work sit on you hands for a second, maybe there is a winning continuation that doesn't even involve a sacrifice
- Double, even triple check the lines if needed. Use as much time as you need, if the sacrifice leads to Mate than what need would you have for time anyway?
And what would this page be without a meme?
Here are some of my games involving piece sacrifices. One good, one...well... not so good.
This was one of my recent games, I sacrificed a rook to force the king where I needed him to go for a checkmate combination.
This was next one was from one of my first tournaments. I had recently learned about the Lasker Combination and thought I was able to use it. Turned out I was wrong. I played on a few more moves and soon resigned.
