A New Gambit Vs. The French
Hello chess lovers,
Do you find it difficult to get attacking chances against the French Defence?
Do you wish there was some gambit that gave you good compensation and practical chances even when the opponent defends well?
After following a discussion with some of my group members, I learned of a new approach against the French Advance, that started to become popular in the last 6 months among Grandmasters - it was even used by Carlsen recently to beat Harikrishna!
The starting moves of our gambit are:
I know what you're thinking - isn't this just the Milner-Barry Gambit, Max?
It's a new interpretation of this gambit - rather than taking on d4 as White, and letting Black's knight get more active with the recapture, White instead keeps the central tension, so that if Black exchanges on c3, White gets his knight developed to a more active square instead.
The great news is that this gambit has been scoring well for White in recent GM games, with the Swedish GM Jonny Hector being the most common practitioner, and more recently GMs Jones, Mamedov and Shevchenko, among others, have added the 7.0-0 interpretation of the Milner-Barry Gambit to their repertoire.
I've just shared a FREE training video on how to play this gambit as White (using a model win by Swedish GM Nils Grandelius) in my Facebook group 'Future Chess Champions'!
