(UPDATED) Movies That Are Better Than Their Books

"The book is always better."

That's what you've heard, right? Well, today, I will be disproving that theory by digging deeper into books like The Wild Robot ( Peter Brown ) and A Bear Called Paddington ( Michael Bond ), pulling out evidence, and comparing the novel to its film adaptation; starting with...

MR. POPPER'S PENGUINS | Written By: Florence Atwater & Richard Atwater

I read this book when I was in the 4th grade and it absolutely stunk. I may or may not have skipped one or two chapters just because it was so bad hehe. Don't tell Ms. Bowman! 🤞

Anyways, the movie on the other hand, is SO much better because it didn't have like the whole thing with the CIRCUS and the whole thing with the... the... the... it's been a while; don't judge me.

Point is, Florence and Richard Atwater's "Mr. Popper's Penguins" is a TOTALLY different thing than 20th Century Fox's "Mr. Popper's Penguins"... I don't know.

HOLES | Written By: Louis Sachar

2023 thoughts: "This book is pretty dark and you can get a little lost at points but the movie did a great job in those categories."

2025 thoughts: Tried watching this movie a second time and it was a LOT darker than I remember; never finished it that time around. I can't give you exact details bc it was so long ago, but I think that the film's still a bit better.

THE LORAX | Written By: Dr. Seuss

If I'm gonna be completely honest, both the book and the movie stunk; the only reason the movie's better is because it actually has a HAPPY ENDING... and an OKAY PLOT............... and MR. O'HARE. The book is just like: "Here. Save some trees, kid. The End."

...I also like the songs ig.

THE WILD ROBOT | Written By: Peter Brown

I thought this book was too slow. It really wasn’t until the last 50 pages when it started to get interesting, and a lot of chapters I felt were kind of unnecessary.

I know I didn't do this for any of the other books I mentioned in this blog, but I'll give it a 3 and a ½ star rating. The only reason I do that and not just give it a 1 is because the last few moments were actually pretty well written and interesting.

Something I noticed about this book is that it is very different from the movie. ( Which I saw before reading 💩 ) Sure, the big picture was pretty much the same, but a lot of little background details were very different. For example, the RECO robots were not actually in the movie. There were robots that came to get Roz, but they were NOTHING like the RECOs, and there were a lot more than 3.

Another thing I noticed about this book ( Pretty early in, I might add ) is the author, Peter Brown, does not seem to like commas. Example: “Our story begins on the ocean, with wind and rain and thunder and lightning and waves.”

…that was just the first sentence of the entire 269 page book. 😵‍💫

This was very distracting and very annoying. I guess it’s a pretty unique way of writing, but it got pretty old… pretty quick. ( After a while of reading, my brain automatically started putting in commas, completely ignoring all the uses of the word “and” 🤣 )

My final thoughts: The Wild Robot is an okay book, with an amazing follow-up film adaptation.

I wrote so much here because I actually had to make a presentation on this book for school; that's also why it sounded so professional; I hate sounding professional.

A BEAR CALLED PADDINGTON | Written By: Michael Bond

Just started actually reading this book... and I have way too much to say.

Book review coming soon??? Nah.......................... maybe...

Comment below if you think of any other movies that are better than their book and I just might give you a shout out!

So... now that you've heard all my wise words, do you still think the book is always better?

*Crickets Crickets*

Probably! 🤗

I honestly don't recommend it; even though it's my own blog, my writing has changed so much that I seem like a totally different person; proceed at your own risk

Jetplane Movies has been such an amazing journey for me. To look back over the years and see my style of writing change has been so fun and it's been such a blessing having all of y'all by my side. Whether this is your first time reading, or you've been a fan since the beginning. I thank you; from the bottom of my heart. This has been a very exciting part of my writing career and I'm so happy with how it's turned out. It's definitely had its ups and downs, (*Cough Cough* The @Jehtt Tribute) but I'm so excited to now be able to share these blogs with the Chess.com community... even though they are ALL about movies. Enjoy!
