Introducing FlickChess
I don't play much chess like... at all. I know how, and I might play you if you ask me, but I don't flex that muscle too much overall. I mostly just blog about movies on this site. 🤣
But I'm about to tell you about how the greatest sport of all time was invented. One day, when I was staring at a chess board, I had a revelation: forget normal chess, why move the pieces like a civilized human being when you can aggressively flick them all over the place? Come on, I know you've always wanted to.
Well, sooner or later, I crafted the perfect game: FlickChess, as I call it. (I think you might be able to tell why I named it that 🥴) In today's blog I will be introducing FlickChess to the world for the very first time sharing with you how to play this soon-to-be iconic game.
Welcome to the world of FlickChess.
OBJECTIVE:
Be the last color standing on the board.
SUPPLIES NEEDED:
Normal chess pieces (Plastic is best for flicking) and a normal chessboard. (Special case: if you are missing chess pieces in your set like me, I have replaced some missing ones with miniature checkers discs; not the full board, but just a couple)
SETUP:
Setup is the same as normal chess.
GAMEPLAY:
White begins by flicking whichever chess piece they choose from his or her side, trying to hit as many black pieces as they can.
What counts as a dead piece? If it has fallen over completely on the board or if it was flung completely off the board. If it was flicked and did not fall over, just shifted a bit, it is still playable. If the piece was hit right to the edge of the board but is still standing up and has not fallen, even if not touching any squares, it is still playable.
You may choose amongst yourselves if you would like to play by adjusting the pieces if they are not in place, or you may choose not to. Note that not adjusting the pieces back would make for a more challenging game.
Next, black goes; taking turns just like in regular chess.
But what if you are in a situation where you don't want to flick your piece? You may choose to move it just like normal chess, but it is up to you. If you only have one piece left on the board, I suggest moving it normally and not flicking, because it is not as risky. But if you have many pieces on the board, I suggest flicking it, widening your chances of taking down your opponent faster. You may take pieces normally as well; you do not always have to flick them down/off the board as sometimes this is much easier.
The game is over when there is only one color left on the board. That color is the winner. If you end with no pieces left on the board, meaning you flicked them all off during the game, then it is a draw.
...and that's FlickChess at first sight.
Please comment below if you have any questions, comments, or concerns with the game! As the creator of this magnificent sport, I am always trying to make it better. Also, comment below if you have tried playing the game at all! Feedback of any kind is appreciated.
