Hello everyone.

My name is Mukesh and I like to play chess. I am currently 15 years old, and am studying in DP-1 of the IB curriculum. I am living in Fiji right now, and play in the chess tournaments that go on over here.

I am currently rated 1067 over the board. I know that this rating is not that much (It's actually very low happy.png), but I really think that my playing level is higher. I am determined to improve as quickly as possible.

I have liked the game since I was 10, but only recently have gotten a lot of interest in it. But since the age of 10, I have been playing, and hence I know quite a few things. I know that my rating does not reflect that, but I have only played in 3 rated tournaments, and hopefully, as I play more, my rating will improve!

Chess in Fiji is currently developing, and there are quite a few tournaments that do happen, but not many of them are classical. Thankfully, Fiji has no coronavirus, so chess tournaments happen regularly. Nowadays, some online tournaments also occur, and I also play in those. I am currently playing in the Global Chess League and there is a planned match for Fiji against Nauru on Friday.

I want to start a new chess blog where I will be writing about my training along with general thoughts that I have on the game. I will also be providing updates on my progress and the tournaments that I played in. I will be posting at least once a week, and will try to get in some games to analyze each week, which I played. I will also be analyzing master games, and giving some of the positions that I use for study. I do not have an official chess coach now, and study by myself. Furthermore, I will just give some general thoughts about the game and tournaments going on! This will be a blog mainly about how I am trying to improve, but also about other things about chess!

Here are my chess.com stats:

My Chess.com Stats

I know that my puzzles rating is quite low, since I don't really use this account often for tactical training. My puzzles rating on my other account is 1927. Now onwards, I will be using this account actively for puzzle training. I will regularly update on how my stats are changing.

Here are some of the goals that I have for chess:

  1. To be rated at least 2000
  2. To be able to calculate 20 moves deep
  3. To have a strong sense of positional understanding
  4. To know at least 2 openings completely

In my opinion, crossing 2000 can be done as long as people work hard at it. After that, who knows...it depends a lot on the work one can put in. meh.png This blog will help me to achieve a more structured training program than the one I have right now. It is hard to force oneself to focus on endgames when you are in the mood for tactical puzzles!

To start off, here is one of the games that I played during the Fiji Chess Nationals:

I lost, but I felt that it was an important game for me as I was making a conscious effort to calculate a lot in this game. Please comment on the analysis so that I can improve upon it. I will be analyzing the remaining games of the tournament very soon. The last major tournament I played was a rapid tournament, but there were no notations, so I don't have those games!

I will see you guys in my next blog with chess training I will be doing and some more analysis! I hope you all enjoyed this one!
