Sharp tactics and Slow Endings

Hello everyone. Over the past few days, I have done a little bit of work on chess. I played games, and today, I worked on tactics and the endgame.

I did a lot of tactical puzzles on chess.com. On this account, my rating did not really improve much. sad.png However, on my other account, it is now on 2095 which is quite good as of now, and I will be looking to improve on that.

Other than doing tactics on chess.com, I have now started on this book called "Woodpecker Method". This book offers 1128 tactical puzzles, divided into easy, intermediate and hard sections. It is recommended by the authors that more basic players can attempt to do the easy and intermediate sections for the woodpecker method and then can attempt the rest as tactical training.

The method itself is a rigorous method in which the same set of puzzles must be repeated over and over again. The first cycle of solving takes place over 4 weeks, and then the time is halved each time. So, the next cycle should take only 2 weeks, then 1 week, then 4 days and so on. In the end, there should be 7 cycles as recommended by the authors. Doing this will give a firm understanding of tactical themes.

Today, I did 22 puzzles with 26 minutes, which I think is a pretty decent speed, but I will be trying to get faster. Here is the google sheet where I am recording my progress so far:

Here are some of the puzzles from the book:

Along with this, I also read an endgame book, called 'Endgame Strategy', written by Shereshevsky. Here, the first chapter was on general endgame ideas, and it gave a game played by Capablanca. Today, I spent time on the second chapter. This was on the centralization of the king. Here is the first game discussed, which I had gone through. I provide my own analysis, which I did a little on my own and with the help of Fritz:

So, that was some training which I did today. I also played some games over the last week and I will be analyzing a couple of those too in the next post. I am looking to making my training more structured, and hopefully, by the next time, I will have gotten close to 100 woodpecker puzzles! Hope you all enjoyed this post and see you next time!
