42/ A beautiful finish! (Topic: ending the game)
Let's come to the puzzle! Coming from a bullet game, I'm pretty surprised that it had been possible for White to find the brilliant and winning move. But it's possible and White won by checkmate! How?
First move: Rook takes h5 (!!)
In this position, we directly understand the weakness of the Black king. Indeed, there's missing a black knight on f6 to protect the king side castle and the queen standing on d8 is completely useless to defend the king. Moreover, we have a rook on e3, that we can put later on g3 or h3 to check and checkmate the king. Why we needed to sacrifice the first roo on the h-pawn? Easy: to open the castle! Let's break the door and attack the king!
Second move: Queen takes h5 (!!)
We check the king to win a tempo and to have the possibility to go on g3 with the rook and take both columns (g and h) to have a checkmate net. Pretty logical after we have found the move rook takes h5!
Third move: Rook g3!
And now the final touch! If the king went on g8, we checkmate after 3. ... / Qg5. If the king went on g7, he can still go on f6, but we come for the next move on the g5-square to checkmate by taking all the possible squares where the king could escape!
Again, thank you very very much for reading this blog!
