[Puzzle Road] Target and take! (P7)
Welcome to Puzzle Road!
Today, I’ve prepared a difficult puzzle for you, where the objective is not to checkmate the opponent’s king but to win material. How? I won’t tell you the moves, but I can already tell you that the idea behind your moves is called “Targeting”!
To win a game, material is essential and to win an advantage in material… it’s often difficult! But if our opponent does not develop his pieces correctly, we can for example trap them, attack them as the same time as the king, make a double attack, etc. …
7/ Trap and take! (Topic: targeting)
We can already see that the black rook is trapped in our side by the black bishop. That means, that Black cannot defend the rook, but can still sacrifice it maybe for a bishop or something like that! Our objective will be to win material!
First move: Queen d1 (!!)
Indeed, the queen is the piece that can take the most squares! We will take all the squares where the black rook could go, and then, we take it! You find that easy? Good for you! Our opponent needs now to play 1. … / Ra2.
Second move: d3!
Exactly! I said material, win the rook is a possibility, but to win the bishop is probably the only possible material-win if your opponent plays correctly! Against d3, the bishop is blocked! Black plays now 2. … / a5, but we just move our rook and will take the bishop at the next move! If 3. … / Bb3, we just need to play 4. Qxb3!
GG friends! A new puzzle solved and a new tactic added to your arsenal!
Remember this for your next games and have fun in playing chess!
