Welcome to Puzzle Road!

One of the main ideas in the endgame is the opposition of the two kings. If you don’t know what it is, you will strictly never win an endgame if your opponent does not blunder. Opposition: when two kings are face-to-face with a certain quantity of squares between them. Diagonal opposition: same idea, but on a diagonal.

Furthermore, the player who has a pawn less can use the opposition to draw the game. An easy example is King and pawn vs. King, because White can only win if the white king is over the white pawn and has taken the opposition to the black king. If Black takes the opposition, the game will certainly end with an extraordinary PAT!

27/ The opposition of two ideas! (Topic: opposition of two kings)

First move: King e7 (!!)

We take here the diagonal opposition with the king. Our king blocks now the White king and this one cannot come anymore to take the pawns. If the White king goes on the 3rd rank, we continue taking diagonal/direct opposition and will win the white pawns and the game. If White plays any other moves, we just follow him by taking each time the opposition (diagonal/direct)

Here a few examples:

You know now how to use the opposition in your endgames to not fall anymore in the traps created by your opponents and to draw the lost games if your opponent blunders! Good work!
Have a good day,
