2nd Annual President's Day Open - Upcoming!
The President's Day Open is taking place from February 13th, 2025 - February 17th, 2025, at the Washington Dulles Airport Marriott in Dulles, VA. Here is my blog post from last year about the 1st Annual President's Day Open. This year's event will occur on a much larger scale, as the prize fund has been doubled from $5,500 to $10,500 across all sections. The tournament will be comprised of 4 sections: Premier, U2300, U1900, and U1500. The Premier section will also have a minimum rating requirement of 2000 FIDE, and it will be a 9 round swiss, with GM/IM norms possible. Sections: Premier (9 Round Swiss), U2300 and U1900 (7 Round Swiss), U1500 (5 Round Swiss)
Premier and U2300 sections are FIDE rated and follow FIDE pairing rules.
Up to two irrevocable half-point byes allowed. Byes must be committed 1 hr before Round 2.
Schedule:
Premier 5 Day: 2/13 at 7 PM, 2/14 at 10 AM and 4 PM, 2/15 at 10 AM and 4 PM, 2/16 at at 10 AM and 4 PM, 2/17 at 9 AM and 3 PM
The Premier section only has a 5 Day schedule.
U2300/U1900 4 Day: 2/14 at 7 PM, 2/15 at 10 AM and 4 PM, 2/16 at 10 AM and 4 PM, 2/17 at 9 AM and 3 PM
U2300/U1900 3 Day: 2/15 at 10 AM and 1 PM, schedules merge starting round 3.
U1500: 2/15 at 10 AM and 1 PM and 4 PM, 2/16 at 9 AM and 3 PM

Minimum rating requirement in Premier section:
US Players: Minimum required FIDE rating 2000. Feb 2025 official FIDE rating considered.
For US Players with FIDE rating between 1900 - 1999 Extra fee to play in Premier section $500
Non US Players: Minimum required FIDE rating 1700.
US Players with FIDE rating <1900 and Non US players with FIDE rating< 1700 not allowed to play in the Premier section.
Conditions: Must commit by 12/31/24 and play all nine rounds to qualify for conditions.

5 and 4 Day Schedule: All games G/90+30
U2300 3 Day: Rounds 1 and 2 are G/60;d5. The first 2 rounds are not FIDE rated.
U1900 3 Day: Rounds 1 and 2 are G/60;d5.
U1500: All games G/60;d5.
Default/Forfeit Time: 1 hour
Entry fee:
Premier: $250 by 12/31, $275 by 01/20, $295 by 02/10, $315 on or after 02/11
U2300/U1900: $175 by 12/31, $200 by 01/20, $220 by 02/10, $240 on or after 02/11
U1500: $125 by 12/31, $140 by 01/20, $155 by 02/10, $175 on or after 02/11
Re-entries are permitted in all sections except Premier -- the price to re-enter is $75.
