Live Chess World League's 4th round got some close matches. Russia, Mexico, Galicia, Australia and Costa Rica lead their respective divisions. Here is a recap of the past two weeks.

Div.1: Russia takes the lead, chased by Ukraine

Russians are already preparing for the Big match of 6th round! They defeated Serbia with a big margin and also played the matches of 7th round against France. Meanwhile, Ukrainians also had a busy weekend. Iran just gave up against Ukraine and didn't bring their big guns! Hopefully they will strike back in the 2nd stage. That's a good strategy to field the best squad when it matters the most

Division One | Current Standings

Rk. Team RUS UKR KAZ SRB IRI PHI FRA PER Points H2H SB Avg%
1 Russia - - 3 3 3 3 - 12 - 39 67%
2 Ukraine - - - 3 3 3 - 9 - 21 77%
3 Kazakhstan - - 3 0 1 3 - 7 - 24 61%
4 Serbia 0 - 0 3 - - 3 6 - 9 53%

Considering Kazakhstan's shocking defeat, Iran (3 points) is well alive in this contest!

Div.2: Mexico becomes the sole leader!

Another close contest between Bosnia and Czech Republic. In terms of total boards, that was the biggest match of this week! Bosnians can reassure themselves by saying, "winning on the 2nd stage is more important" and they have done this before

Change of club couldn't improve the performance for USA.

Teams are closely matched in this division. Even the Mexicans haven’t confirmed their spot on Championship pool yet!

Division Two | Current Standings

Rk. Team MEX UZB CZE BIH SVK ROU USA ARG Points H2H SB Avg%
1 Mexico 1 - 0 - 2 2 2 7 - 12 63%
2 Uzbekistan 1 - - - 2 1 2 6 0 12 66%
3 Czech Rep. - - 2 - - 2 2 6 0 11 64%
4 Bosnia 2 - 0 - - - 2 4 - 15 63%

Div.2 is way too unpredictable. Don't be surprised if Czech Republic finishes on top

Div.3: Galicia, Australia still perfect

Both Galicia and Australia won their matches of 4th round quite comfortably against Uruguay and Denmark respectively. Unfortunately this division got the most number of forfeits. Another team got disqualified as the symmetry continues for both groups!

Western Group | Current Standings

Rk. Team GAL CAN ENG BRA CHI PUR URU Points H2H SB Avg%
1

Galicia - 2 - 2 - 2 6 - 16 73%
2 Canada - - 1 2 1 1 5 - 11 58%
3 England 0 - 2 2 - - 4 - 10 49%
4 Brazil - 1 0 - - 2 3 - 9 49%

Eastern Group | Current Standings

Rk. Team AUS TUR ITA IND ESP DEN AZE Points H2H SB Avg%
1 Australia - 2 2 - 2 - 6 - 18 70%
2 Turkey - 1 - 2 0 2 5 - 8 64%
3 Italy 0 1 1 2 - - 4 - 12 49%
4 India 0 - 1 - - 2 3 - 4 66%

Top 4 teams from each group will qualify for Championship Pool.

U1600 Event: Good start for Mexico and India

U1600 event is also having the biggest season ever with 22 teams. Already we've got some exciting contests across the divisions. Even a single point can change the match result! Ukraine suffered their first loss in this season against Mexico (22.5-31.5). In Div.2, India registered around 200 players for their first round against Australia and avenged their loss in the main event!

Remember, sandbagging is strictly prohibited for this event. Few of the sandbaggers have already been reported. Please don't spoil the fun of this event

Some Interesting Games

Can you find checkmate in this position?

White missed several opportunities here and the game ended as a draw!

Don't resign when you have the stalemate trick!

So many interesting games and I'm planning to compile them all at the end of this season

Stats Corner

Approximately we're reaching thousands of new players every week!

10% of the total matches are still unplayed! Teams will have a busy time in the 2nd half of First Stage.
