Chess SA Rating system can be a very complicated system and difficult to break down. In this Blog I will attempt to break it down into portions to better understand you Profile on the Chess SA Rating System.

First Article: Getting started on your Chess SA profile

Second Blog: Little more depth

Third Blog: Tying up the loose ends

Step 1) Access you profile:

https://chessa.co.za/ratingsdatabase.aspx

Navigate by using the Magnifying glass to search.

Search will work on Surname OR Chess SA ID.

Find your record and select your record (click on your name).

The first Rating information you will see will be the Rating Change. You want to figure out where this come from.

The Rating changes surely come from your Tournaments.....

If you scroll down to the other information you find the following:

This will give the impression that we are talking about TWO types of rating:

1) Rating

2) Weighted Performance

So we will need to find both....

If you scroll down more you will find the Tournament Section. Select History to see a better picture.

Now there are MANY columns, that make no sense at first glance. Note that there is am Analysis button on the right that can help us find the calculations for the columns.

The second last column (+/-) show the effect the tournament had/ will have on your Rating column.

The (+/-) column will be calculated by multiplying the Swe-column by the K-column.

Swe - That depends on your performance against each of your oppononts.

K-factor - Depends on the tournament. Each Tournament have a K-factor. The higher the time control, the larger the K-factor will be.

(Following blogs will deal with the calculation of the "Swe" and "K-factor")

THE RATING HERE SEEM TO BE THE CHANGE IN RATING THAT WE HAVE SEEN INITIALLY

(4.8 in this example)

BUT WHAT ABOUT THE RATING VS WEIGHTED........ We have to figure that out.

For that you will have to wait for a following BLOG ......
