Introduction
The Réti Opening is considered a hypermodern opening, where white pressures the center with flank pawns and minor pieces . White may also kingside fianchetto to create pressure on the light squares in the center . It is considered a very flexible and a transitional opening , because it has the ability to transpose into many more known openings , like the Sicilian Defense , Slav Defense , Queen's Gambit Etc.

History
The Réti Opening is named after the Austro-Hungarian-Czechoslovakian Chess Player Richard Réti . He was one of the principal proponents of hypermodernism in chess.
This Opening is also called Zukertort Opening . Named after Johannes Zukertort . Unlike the majority of attacking players, Zukertort preferred openings such as 1. c4 and 1. Nf3 that are closed or semi-closed and offered the possibility of transpositions – in fact in the early 1880s 1. Nf3 was known as "Zukertort Opening", 40 years before it became known as the Réti Opening
