GM Ding Liren is the new World Champion—but still a bit of an enigma. How to better discover his chess than by reading his own game notes? Ding has annotated a dozen games for New In Chess magazine in the past decade. This post is the second part of a series of games by Ding, explaining his thoughts and ideas.

This game brought Ding his greatest victory at the time. He won the super tournament in St. Louis, beating World Champion Magnus Carlsen in a spectacular tiebreak. Magnus had won all ten tiebreakers he had been involved in before this one. The rapid games of the tiebreak were two draws, then Ding won the first blitz game and a draw with black would suffice. But it ended in a devastating attack!
