My win against a 2000+
Hello readers and welcome to the side-series where I play against higher rated players and upsetting them! Feel free to post your own upset games in the comments below! Ok, let's dive in.
Here, in a normal Open Sicilian, I play the novelty Bxf6!? This is not the mainline, but it was a bullet game and I didn't really have time to think it through.
I continue with a typical idea, placing a knight on d5 and playing Nc4. Here, I have to admit, I didn't know what I was doing. Qh5 was the first move that came to mind, so I played it with an aggressive threat, h4. Obviously Ncb6 was much better, or even, if I were to continue attacking, h4 straight away.
Ouch. I played, for my standards, surprisingly well, and I even got the h4 move in! I took the f5 pawn, and he won it back. Now, I tried a tactic that wouldn't work. Rxd4?? is a blunder, and I lose an exchange. Can you see how?
Did you find it? I hope you did! Ok, let's go back to the game. (If you're wondering, my opponent, did spot the tactic, unfortunately for me).
Haha! My opponent threw away his exchange, but, I don't blame him. Qxf6 looks reasonable enough, just, unluckily, it wasn't. Get ready though, because my opponent is about to knock you off your chair with a series of... blunders!
There we have the complete game! Of course, when I put it into a computer, it started screaming at my missed opportunities. See if you can spot the two mistakes that I missed!
Ouch! That simple mate-in-1 would have won for me!
A double attack! Did you get all two puzzles right?
So there we have my upset against a high rated player. I will be making a youtube video about this soon, so, please stay tuned!
Now it's timed for the dreaded advertising BUT please keep it in mind that a very hopeful chess.com member is behind this.
