All good things must come to an end, even though there are some experiences you would like to last forever, or at least a couple of more days. Shortly told: Kristiansund was a blast! Some say that a chess player’s impression of a tournament depends a lot on the result achieved. Usually that is true – but you can look at it the other way too: The tournament was so well-organized and executed, which led to optimal conditions for me to do well :) I’ll take this opportunity to congratulate Kristiansund Sjakklubb and Arctic Securities on a great event!

My goal in the tournament was to make some upsets and put my very famous opponents under pressure. I feel pretty certain I succeeded! Rapid is a lot of fun, and when playing in this esteemed company, you’re playing without too much pressure – which in turn makes you experiment a bit, and take on f7 against Judit, only to start thinking after she plays Qd7 :)

My next rapid tournament is the exclusive Le Trophée CCAS in Cap d’Agde, with stars like Ivanchuk, Nakamura, Karpov and J. Polgar, to mention a few. Hopefully I’ll build on the experience I had in Kristiansund to do even better in France!
