Hi guys! It's been a while since I've made a blog post, so I decided to make one about my most recent OTB tournament. So without further ado, let's jump in!
Game 1:
So, notes from this game:
I just got tunnel vision and forgot about c5
g3 for my opponent weakened his king more and forced him to give back a pawn
Never give up! I mentally gave up after I lost c5, but he made enough weaknesses for me to come back and draw.
Ok, I kind of got lucky in that game, but round 2 I was paired against Curtis Fukuchi (1853) who was once 2000+, let's jump right in!
Notes from this game:
I need to study the smith-morra more.
I missed Nd5 which basically locked up my position
Qa5 was a bad way to liquidate the position
Ok so obviously I was a little disgruntled after the loss, but that wasn't going to affect my last 2 round games.
Round 3 I was paired against Neil Lad (1578) who I have played twice before with a 2-0 record. Let's jump right in!
Notes from this game:
That Bxg7 rook trap is easily overlooked
I should have taken the knight back with the b-pawn to avoid e-file pressure.
Kf2 is a clever way to get out of the pressure
Ok so 1.5/3 isn't the worst score in the world and round 4 I was paired against George Dai (1978) A strong class A player. Let's do our best and see how it goes.
Notes from this game:
c5 was probably not accurate as it makes my center very loose
Qb5 might not have been accurate because I lose a pawn.
Activity in endgames is very important.
Ok so I finish out the tournament with 2.5 points, 5th place, not bad at all! I probably should have ended up with 1.5 (losing to the 2200 and drawing the 1970) but it is what it is. So overall, not shabby at all My rating went up from 1669 to 1737, a 68 rating point gain and pushing me over 1700 (again)
Anyways I hope you guys enjoyed this first blog post (in a while) from me, and I'll see you guys in the next one, Bye!
