Interview conducted on October 7, 2025.

@BasixWhiteBoy is being interviewed.

Me: Introduce yourself

Basix: Hi, I’m Basix! I’ve been around the site for over two years, spending all of my time on the off-topic forums and around the social side. I enjoy writing threads, meeting new people, and interacting with people I come across. I’ve made some great friends throughout my time here that I’m very thankful for. Outside of this site, I’m a regular high school student who’s known for running track and cross country. I enjoy running, playing and watching sports, debating people on controversial topics, creative writing, and of course, posting on these forums.

Me: Why did you choose your username? Have you any usernames before this one?

Basix: I chose my username because of my IRL nickname ‘Basix’, since I stuck to the basix and was a ‘BasixWhiteBoy.’ I haven’t had any usernames before this one, but I did go through a period where I made a lot of usernames to evade bans, like ‘BasixTheSwexy’.

Me: Why did you choose you pfp? Both this one and the pool one?

The pfp Basix was using the time of the question

Basix: I chose my current profile picture to watch my friend @Elin_m. I’m not sure how long I’ll keep it.

Basix: My more notable profile picture, I chose for tradition. I update my profile picture each summer with a new photo of myself inside a pool floatie, which fits into jokes about me living in one and whatnot. https://www.chess.com/forum/view/off-topic/life-inside-a-pool-float-is-difficult

Me: The next question is club related, and you aren't in any clubs (shocking, I know), so instead I'll ask you a slightly different question. Have you joined or owned any clubs before?

Basix: I have, but only a very select few. I joined Revenant’s OTF club for a few days a little while ago until I realized it wasn’t for me. I joined BasixWhiteGirl’s ‘A little Knight Music’ since she invited me, and it seemed important to her that I joined. I left a few days later, since it was filled with too much drama. I joined Scemer’s ‘Paladins of chess’ over a year ago in search for a fun community, but it wasn’t very active nor very fun for me.

Basix: I have made one club, but it was just for a joke. It was ‘Basix’s Swexy Lounge’.

Me: How did you find Chess.com social and what is your opinion on it?

Basix: So, I found the forums (more specifically, off-topic) in my second day here on the app. I clicked the ‘more’ tab, clicked on forums, and scrolled all the way down. As for my opinion on it, I really enjoy it. I find it childish in all of the right ways, and extremely entertaining. I wouldn’t have thought of being such an active member of the community and making so many friends, but I owe OTF and the social side of chess.com for being such a fun part of my life.

Me: Agreed on the extremely entertaining part. My quotes wouldn't exist if it weren't entertaining.

Me: It is well known that you prefer OTF and I have seen your reasons for why, but for the sake of the interview I request that you state why you prefer OTF. Who knows maybe there's some who'll read this who doesn't know the answer.

Basix: I wrote a thread on this a few months ago: https://www.chess.com/forum/view/off-topic/clubs-vs-otf-the-never-ending-debate

Basix: My main points are that OTF is very well moderated, there isn't a ton of drama, OTF is more together, and a much more diverse place than any club.

Me: Forsaken's gonna be happy I'm finally interviewing someone who advocates for OTF-

Me: What would you say is your greatest achievement on Chess.com?

Basix: The simple choice would have to be creating the largest thread on this site and forcing developers to fix the code to make sure they can go past 200k posts.

Me: For the lore goblins and those who are curious, the link to said largest thread is here: https://www.chess.com/forum/view/off-topic/otf-dead-at-night-thread-2

Me: I just looked out of curiosity and caught comment #274600.

Me: Anyways, are there any blogs/clubs (I assume no lol)/people you would like to shoutout, and if so what/who are they?

Basix: Eesh, how many people can I shout out?

Me: As many as you'd like but if it's more than fifty you're gonna have to stop.

Basix: Alright, I can work with that. I'll message you back when I finish my list.

[I would like to note that I was going to max it at 100 but changed it to 50 because I realized I might regret maxing it at 100. This is exactly why you lower the max amount of people interviewees are allowed to shout-out.]

Basix: Actually, just shout out everyone. I don't want to upset anyone by not adding anyone. Oh, and my beloved BasixWhiteGirl.

Me: lol

Me: Well, thank you for your time! Would you like to say anything else?

Basix: Just ‘Keek!’
