In today’s post, I am going to focus on the basic attacking principles which every chess player should be very well familiar with and use to his advantage in every game. Attacking is not as simple as deploying your pieces on advanced squares and prompting exchanges for a target to show up. In fact, it is quite the other way round. There are many ways to attack your opponent, but there is always one best way to approach his position, exploit its weak spots, take advantage of your resources in that area, and pick up the right targets in your opponent’s camp. Attacking also requires careful deliberation and precision when it comes to bringing your pieces close to your target while keeping them safe through hidden tactical combinations. What is motif and initiative and what are the prerequisites for a successful attack? What are forcing moves and why are they so important for attacking successfully? The answers to these questions you can find in the video below which I am happy to present you with and which I recently recorded for a new chess website called www.ChessOnlineInstruction.com. This website provides a number of free instructive lectures, which you can benefit from a lot during your chess training sessions at home. I hope you enjoy my lecture today!
