I am reading How to Beat Your Dad at Chess by Murray Chandler. I am blogging to create supporting puzzles in studying the content.

Legendary Paul Morphy's (1837-84) stunning queen sacrifice was played against Louis Paulsen in 1857. On an open the g-file, rook and bishop force mate. Of the forms, it is vital that White captures the f7 bp, before the final discovered check.

75) The basic pattern is a bit of a windmill with wr clearing out pawns until only a delaying sacrifice of br merely delays checkmate.

76) Here is a fuller example. This is the basic pattern with just more pieces on the board.

77a) Just pull wr to g5 for mate. ...
77b) ...getting greedy for bp on f7 gives black an opportunity to achieve a winning position.
78) This is a quicker mate from the famous game itself. bq to move by a sacrifice removing the wb defender. It is faster by 6..brg2.
