But what are Discovered Attacks?
If you are a pro detective, you could have found out that Discovered Attacks are attacks, which
first must be discovered to work!
In chess context, there is one basic condition for a Discovered Attack : Several pieces(usually three) are on one line, row or diagonal- in most basic cases 2 of your own, 1 of your opponent.
In this position, you have 2 pieces working in this tactic pattern( Queen&Knight) and your opponent's piece (the other knight) is of course very important, too, because this is the piece you will attack.
So now the conditions are all nice, and if you now move your knight away, your queen attacks the opponent's knight. Oh and your knight move can also attack a new piece in more advanced positions, so it could be called a fork, too![]()
At lower levels, this sort of attack can be very useful, because your opponent could maybe not notice the attack (that's why it's called DISCOVERED
). But this tool could of course come in handy in many games with different levels.
To train what you've learned, here are some puzzles:
Ok, that was it. Well done
Your ready to win some more material in future games!
