Acceptance (A Chess Poem)
The chessboard again becomes the canvas upon which the complex dance of human emotions and the struggle for acceptance unfolds. My journey, marked by the shadows of childhood trauma and the specter of past relationships tainted by narcissism, mirrors the strategic and often precarious maneuvers on this board.
Chess reflects the internal battles waged today in the recesses of my soul, challenging me to reconcile the desire for connection with the fear of (self-) deception:
Opening
Confiding a feeling marked the opening move
in a game fraught with
uncertainty. An ambiguous response, a murky blend
of potential reciprocity and personal turmoil,
was akin to a complex opening preparation that
left me
analyzing and overanalyzing
the sharpest of positions,
haunted not by a weak pawn but the ghosts of gaslighters past.
My moves expose the back rank to vulnerability,
but I remain aware, and they are the only ways
to advance
in the game,
outcome shrouded in mist.
Middlegame
In the thick of the middlegame,
my thoughts and feelings are interlocked,
paralyzed in the center
of the board, each move fraught
with potential and peril.
I feel the suffocating atmosphere of the legendary Fischer-Spassky 1972,
charged with such geopolitical tension and psychological warfare.
Fischer faced not only his opponent,
and the weight
of the “free” world
but the weight
of his own
expectations and demons.
I navigate the complexities of connection, fear, and self-doubt,
seeking
clarity amid chaos.
I recognize this game
as a reflection
of eternal Ouroboros,
a cycle of learning and relearning,
planning and re-planning,
destruction and transformation in each move.
Endgame
The endgame looms, the board simplifies,
yet each move carries increasing weight.
Acceptance emerges
not through the resolution of ambiguity but through its embrace — a fact.
A game may end in many ways,
but it must end,
change.
Outcome
Checkmate’s clarity is sought,
but draws happen too.
Ambiguous results are still results.
Analysis
Acceptance is not eradication but acknowledgment,
shaking the hand, making the move, smacking the clock,
shaking the hand
with grace and wisdom.
