That checkmate tactic feeling

I believe that one can develop a sense for tactics in your own games. And checkmate tactics are one of the more easier tactics to develop a sense for.

Why ? Because when you smell that there's a checkmate in the air, then it is a matter of looking at the candidate moves, and start to calculate, and then do a sort of trial and error to find the checkmate.

The calculation becomes easier when there are forced moves involved, which is pretty often the case with checkmate tactics.

In the past, when I was a teenager, I have gone through thousands of annotated master games. Some games made a big impression on me.
