That checkmate tactic feeling
I believe that one can develop a sense for tactics in your own games. And checkmate tactics are one of the more easier tactics to develop a sense for.
Why ? Because when you smell that there's a checkmate in the air, then it is a matter of looking at the candidate moves, and start to calculate, and then do a sort of trial and error to find the checkmate.
The calculation becomes easier when there are forced moves involved, which is pretty often the case with checkmate tactics.
