The art of rook endings

I have written a few times before about rook endings. Rook endings can occur quite often, and I also noticed ... quite often that quite some of my opponents don't seem to either have studied rook endings or they don't seem to have a "feel" for rook endings.

One thing to understand in rook endings in general is :


A rook is happier when it is active.

For an active rook to be useful it is good to target weak pawns


Another thing to keep in mind is :


In a rook ending king activity can make the difference between win or loss or draw


Let's look at a fresh game example, where my rather low rated opponent played quite a good game ! :
