Why is simple chess so difficult ?

One of the tactics I like the most is the simplification tactic.

It can be beautiful to see tactic tricks with the only purpose to transpose to a winning endgame. But simple and quiet chess moves are sometimes hard to find for some reason.

In the following game I actually overlooked a checkmate sequence, but after that I noticed a few moves long simplification tactic which was joyful.
