Uncontrollable Tilt and HOW to get Rid of It
Hewwwoooooooooooooooo again! I am back with another blog!
You probably all experienced a little something called tilt. It is never fun.
"What is tilt anyways?" you might ask. Well here is some-sort of explanation that I came up with!
What is tilt?
Tilt could happen at any point of your chess career. Whether in OTB, or online chess. It's a point in chess when you start loosing more and more games one after another.
Here is an example:
So lets say you're playing a bullet game. And... you lost. You want to get your rating back right? So you play more games. And you keep loosing. Most of the time after you lose, you come right back in a few hours. But sometimes that's just not the case! Tilt can go on for long periods of time, days, weeks, or even months! Eventually you will get back your rating, it's just a matter of time.
Anyways... back to the main idea!
Today I'll be telling you guys some tips that often helped me minimize the tilt, or even stop it!
1. Take a break
This is the most common tip that helped LOTS of people. After you keep loosing more and more games, you will want to take a break. But the break must be short term! Maximum at 1 day! I've seen people sit for days... or weeks! NO! Don't do that. If you do so, you will lose the skill and you will not be able to Un-tilt. I suggest solving some puzzles, if not than you can watch some Twitch. This advice has always helped me regain confidence and rating!
2. Try a different time-control
Often, whenever you tilt in (lets say...) blitz, you won't regain that "nice" feeling of playing more. And you might want to switch to a different time control. Maybe bullet? Or rapid? This has often helped because you switch 'gears' and start of fresh with a new time limit. If you continue to play the same category/time-control that you tilted with, you will most likely tilt more.
And finally... 3. Get a coach/master to help you out
This advice is fairly simple. Get a trusted coach or a strong player to give you some tips. This has honestly helped me a lot and I really recommend it to other chess players!
Conclusion:
Tilt is always uncomfortable and frustrating, but you can find a few ways to deal with it! Please make sure to check out my other blogs here! Please also follow me on Twitch!
