Pairings Revealed For Sukooon Resort 1st Indian Chess.com League
The Indian chess stars are getting ready to battle out on their virtual chessboards in the Sukooon Resorts - 1st Indian Chess.com League. The pairings were revealed after the captains meeting on the 10th of May 2020.
Before we see the pairings, the big announcements made in the Captain's meeting were the increase in prize fund from earlier announced Rs.40,000/- to Rs. 1,00,000/- and also there were few technical rule changes which were explained in detail by the Chief Arbiter Swapnil Bansod.
The drawing of lots was an exciting feature of the opening ceremony, and one of the interesting tidbits of this was GM M.R.Venkatesh of Chess Gyaan Team asking for the "G3 cell" which is also his favourite move, as he plays the g3 Reti opening with White.
The big increase in prize fund was mainly thanks to Sukooon Resort coming in as the title sponsor of the event, and Maestro Chess Academy sponsoring the best U-16 prizes.

The games start at 4 PM on 15th May (Friday). There will be an e-inauguration ceremony at 3:45 PM where we expect some special guests to join us and make the inauguration ceremony a grand one!

Sukoon Resort - 1st Indian Chess.com league is one of the strongest chess leagues in the world with an average rating of the field being 2474. Every single player in this field is a titled player, and the field includes players who have represented the country in Olympiad, World Championship and other international sporting events.
The players have been divided into 10 teams, and all the teams have a U-16 player and a woman participant. The rating average has to be above 2400 to make the qualification, which has made the league immensely strong with the highest-rated team being Chess Gurukul with an average of 2537.
Hosting a sporting event during a pandemic is impossible. However, with the help of Chess.com platform, the organizing trio of Grand Master Priyadharshan Kannappan, International Master Rakesh Kulkarni, and FIDE Master Niranjan Navalgund, have made the unimaginable into a reality.
This event boasts of a prize fund of 1 Lac rupees, with the winning team taking home a cool Rs.35,000/-, and the 2nd place team taking home Rs.20,000/-
The other prizes in this event include Most Valuable Player of the event, Maestro Chess Academy Best U-16 player and also prizes for best clutch performances in the event.
The fans are eager to watch their favourite Grand Masters like Sethuraman, Praggnanandhaa, Gukesh, Aravindh Chithambaram etc. in action from May 15-17 playing on Chess.com platform.
The time control of the games is going to be 10 minutes with a 2-second increment. The top 2 finishing teams after 9 rounds, will compete on Sunday in the “Super Finals”, for the cash prize and also be crowned the champion of Sukooon Resorts - 1st Indian Chess.com League.
The league will have live Grand Master commentary by GM Priyadharshan Kannappan with a panel of guest commentators, and will also have fun contests for fans to keep them engaged throughout the league!
