Today I had a coaching session with Dave and we analyzed one of his games.

I think it was a nice example which showed how to win with an open file, so I decided to annotate and share it with You.

Open file and penetration squares

When there is an open file, we want to occupy it with rooks and would like to use the file to penetrate to the opponent's 7th or 8th ranks and win pawns or attack the king.

One important method of the attack is exchanging the defender of the penetration sqaure.
