The magic of the knight endgames
What are the most important ingredients for a good knight endgame? You need a powerful knight which in the best case blocks the opponent's passed pawn and help its own passed pawn. You need an active king to capture the opponents pawns and help your own pawn to queen and you need at least one passed pawn which can be promoted and win material.
Today my opponent played again the weird looking 1.e4 c5 2.Nh3 I played 2...d5 and then I realized, if I will capture on e4 then it will be same like a Budapest gambit reversed. We got a similar middlegame where my internet provider got a problem I disconnected and then I needed to use my mobile phone to get back to the game just in time.
So I got to time trouble and exchanged too many pieces too quickly, to miss some middlegame advantage.
We got an equal endgame, where I was able to improve my king's knight's and pawn's position and got to the point where I could penetrate and for a zugzwang to win a pawn and later the game. Unfortunately I missed the same idea 2 times and then we exchanged all the pawn to get a draw:
