Chess.com Intermediate Bots-worth it,or not?
Just last week, I covered the beginner bots on chess.com.
This week on the blog,I will offer a comprehensive review of the intermediate bots on chess.com.
The bots reviewed this week are as follows:
Maxim(1000)
Azeez(1100)
Maria(1200)
Nelson(1300)
David(1400)
I'll start at the lowest rated out of the pool of bots chosen today, Maxim.
Maxim(1000)
My first impression of Maxim's playing style was that he plays a lot like Aron(700).He gifts pieces to you and only plays well in the middlegame, but his good playing does not last very long. I attempted many forks and none of them were stopped by this 1000-rated bot.
My verdict
Maxim does offer a tough game, but he does not put your skills to the test frequently enough for me to say that he plays superbly. Based on my 3 games against him, he should be a piece of cake for players rated 900 and over.
Azeez(1100)
In my games against Azeez, I noticed he starts with pawn moves in the side of the board, then moves into developing pieces. While not developing pieces early is considered bad, Azeez will find a way out, forking many pieces through perpetual check. Sometimes, he gives away his knights and bishops, and will end up in trouble in the endgame.
My verdict
Azeez is an aggressive player, though he does mirror the playing style of the 1000 bots. Azeez plays both defensive and attacking moves. Overall, Azeez is a good match for people rated 1000+.
Maria(1200)
After analysing my games, I can comfortably say that Maria would put up a good fight for someone rated around 1000. However, she loves to sacrifice, and she may trap you in her spider's web of tricks if you fail to stop them.
My verdict
Maria is one of the only bots who plays according to their rating, in my opinion. She lives up to her rating and will offer a good game for someone of her calibre.
Nelson(1300)
Yes, he is the monstrous bot who takes advantage of queen moves. Beware of his wily queen traps that will end you up fixed in a tight spot!
My verdict
Many chess.com users express their dislike of Nelson in the forums, as he is very frustrating since he keeps using his queens. However, if you force an exchange of queens, you should be all right.
David(1400)
Players are triumphant when David performs odd moves such as moving side pawns. However, he always has more tricks and game-changing moves up his sleeve! Be careful when playing him.
My verdict
Based on my playing experience, David gives an ideal contest to those rated 1450+. On the other hand, don't take him too easily.
Also, a huge thank you to @HushedFalconSr for help concerning this blog!
