2015 Robert P. Smith Memorial, Round 1
Here are my initial thoughts on a game I played tonight at the Pittsburgh Chess Club. This tournament lasts six rounds, one per week at G/120.
My impression is that no one really likes the first round, when the matchups are pretty lopsided due to the player pool. I am the fourth seed and had nearly a 500 point advantage over my opponent tonight. However I have had to pull off some extremely lucky wins over lower rated players at these tournaments, so I was relieved to get through the first round smoothly.
