2015 Robert P. Smith Memorial, Round 5
After last week's game, I was tied with the first seed with 4.5 out of 5. I had White against him this week and decided to try opening prep for the nth time (n >= 3). I finished for the first time, but unfortunately it ended up being useless.
We ended up in an Alapin with the White isolated queen pawn. However this was not very helpful for a few reasons:
- I am not good with IQPs.
- My opponent likes playing against IQPs.
- I am a slow player: not that aggressive or timely.
- I know what the Alapin is, but past that...
Eventually though, I managed to trade some of the problematic pieces on both sides, to something between middlegame/endgame. But Black still had pressure and I blundered the queenside pawns, which did not turn out well.
