Overworked and Underpaid

Overworked and Underpaid

Oct 1, 2016, 7:12 PM 0

The tactical theme from my game on the White side of a King's Indian is the "Overworked Piece".

This is a piece that is simply doing too many jobs ... and no man can serve two masters.

Piece X may have to defend A and B. When you make it undertake duties A, then it can no longer undertake duties B.

Critical Position

After White has played 11. h3, Black instantly lost with 11. ... Ng6. Here the g7 Bishop is overworked having to defend both f6 from a Royal Fork and guard the h6 Knight.
The only move for Black was 11. ... f6 which both harasses the Bishop, cuts off communication of Bishop from e7 (where it could defend the Knight as it gave check).
