Finally, another event arrive on the scene, as UCCIC will start already next week!

First and foremost, we return to the Individual format to make sure every single player enjoys this Championship! So, you'll need to register for this one, as usual, in the comments section below or in a personal message to me. The only thing you need to tell me is your username!

Now we go to the most interesting part - the UCCIC format...

United Chess Competitions Individual Championship format

Firstly, the format depends on the number of participants! We have a few different options available here:

a) 24 players event.

b) 32 players event(the most preferable one).

c) 48 players event.

d) 64 players event(another good option).

1st format.

If we have 24 participants, they will be divided into 6 groups with 4 players in each! 3 rounds or 6 games are played in each Group. A player is awarded 3 points for the win, 1 point for a draw, and 0 points for a loss. And already here things are starting to get a bit different from the usual championships. In the Group Stage, each player will have one 2+1 Bullet game, one Blitz 3+1 game, and one Rapid 10+0 game to show their skills in all three time controls!! Here is how it looks on a scheme:

Group X:

Round 1:

Player A vs Player B, Player C vs Player D - Bullet games.

Player A vs Player C, Player B vs Player D - Blitz games.

Player A vs Player D, Player B vs Player C - Rapid games.

After the Group Stage, the two best players by points advance to the Play-off(12 players in total). The four best third-place finishers from the 6 Groups join the 12 players in the Play-off Stage of the championship. Tie-breaks for all the formats will be described later!

The Play-off Stage is quite similar for all the formats, so I will describe it later as well.

2nd format.

In the case of 32 participants(which is the number I'm aiming forhappy.png), everything looks like this: 8 Groups with 4 players in each, 3 Rounds of Group Stage(Bullet, Blitz, Rapid games as in the 1st format), 2 players from each Group advance to the Play-off.

3rd format.

Having 48 registered players is not the best way to run this championship but we will leave it in our arsenal(who knows what happens, right?).

4th format.

64 players will be divided into 16 Groups with, obviously, 4 participants in each! Here, the total number of 32 players(2 best players from each group) will make it to the Play-off Stage of the championship!

Tie-break rules.

So, who will be ahead in case of even points in the Group Stage? Let's find out!

For example, Player X has 5 points and Player Y has 5 points, too.

1. If Player X beats Player Y in a head-to-head matchup, he will be ahead, and vice-versa.

2. Number of wins.

3. Number of losses(if Player X lost more matches than Player Y, he'll be behind Player Y).

4. Number of draws(one last attempt to break the tie happy.png).

5. Number of Rapid wins.

6. Number of Blitz wins.

7. Number of Bullet wins.

8. Number of Rapid draws.

9. Number of Blitz draws.

10. Number of Bullet draws.

11. Arithmetical average of the Bullet, Blitz, and Rapid rating for each player right at the end of the Group Stage

Feel free to suggest more tie-break rules in the comments below👇👇

UCCIC Knockout Stage format.

Depending on the number of players, we can start from either 1/16 or 1/8 in the Play-off. Before it starts, we will have a draw to form the pairs for the first round of the Knockout. I will stream it on my YouTube channel(and the group stage draw will happen there, too), and the final Play-off bracket will be determined.

Each pair plays a best-of-three match - one Bullet 2+1 game, one Blitz 3+1 game, and another Bullet 2+1 game if there's a draw. If the score is 1.5 - 1.5, then the players continue to play 1+1 games in order to determine the winner.

Technical details.

https://www.chess.com/club/united-chess-competitions-ucc All useful forum topics will be available in this club.

1) Negotiation forum thread. There, you can set the time for your next game(s). Pls, mention the Group name(only in Group Stage), Round number/Play-off round(1/16, 1/8, 1/4, etc), and usernames of the opponents(for example, Group A, Round 2, @example_person1 vs @example_person2).

2) Games results forum thread. There, you need to report the results of your games. Please include the link to each game and the same info from the negotiation forum.

Deadlines.

All Group Stage games must be played in 10 days. You can play all your games in one day or take your time - it's your choice here! Just don't forget about this eventhappy.png

Each Play-off round will take 1 week(each pair needs to play at least 3 games, check the Knockout format).

Conclusion.

Firstly, please invite your friends, clubmates, and people you know here on Chess.com. We all want this championship to start and successfully end.

Secondly, I want to highlight one important thing: please, DO NOT register for this championship if you don't feel you have enough time to actively participate in it. I'm not ready to see another event with half of the games ending in a forfeit win/loss. If you don't fully understand the rules&format of the event, don't join it either. Contact me first in case of any doubts. Sorry, but if you ask what is this championship about, why is it called so, and other dumb questions after reading this blog post, I don't think you're ready for such events.

I hope for your cooperation and common sense guys. All the best!
