In Search Of...
Improvement. In my chess game. Radical improvement. Think USCF 300 rating points from where I start my quest (2041).
Now there's 300 points and there's 300 points. The difference between a player rated 900 and one rated 1200 is substantial. But my goal, starting from now, is to become an FM, a title which I think I need to maintain about a 2350 USCF strength in order to achieve. Which makes it just over 300 points from where I am now.
That 300 points in strength, will undoubtedly be the toughest challenge I've ever faced. Tougher than losing weight. Tougher than finding true love. Tougher than staying off the crack-pipe. (OK, I never was on the pipe, but if were, I would imagine making that 300 points of progress would be more difficult than putting it down). But we'll see.
I'm going to write two more blog entries, that correspond roughly to tournaments I've played in since I started this quest, so pay no mind that these three entries have the same date. I just joined chess.com, and figured this was a good a place as any to chronicle my journey. Maybe it will be of interest to some...or none. Ultimately, a diary serves it's author, so anyone that gets anything from my musings along the way, consider any insight you gain, for me, a fringe benefit.
