Newport A V Priorslee Lions

Well this was a match with nothing riding on it for us ,but a must win realistically for Newport. We still went though with the aim of an upset especially with the ever improving Adrian on 3.

Did'nt take long to realize the size of our task when we saw that Newport had not done us any favours naming a full strength team and Im sure they must have been a little concerned that we could turn up and pull off the shock, wishful thinking! it was a massacre the result never in any doubt. If it were football it would have been dubbed men against boys or David v Goliath with Goliath doing the job.

Newport put us to the sword with ease first came the highlight of the night Andy on board 5 having a slight edge over Tony wanted to go and watch the golf so quickly agreed a draw. That result was always going to put huge pressure on the rest of us , but it didn't matter I played terrible on 1 and Tom easily won at no stage was he in any trouble what so ever and musrt admit to feeling I had let the team down a little, I can play rubbish but this game was utter garbage.

On board 2 once again Glyn had played a French but instead of a nice passive line that is expected in a French opening he had opted for a more double edged approach and not one that I like and was under pressure through out his game. Steve on 3 had seemingly got a slight edge over Nathanael but in pushing pieces forward had left holes in his defence that Nathanael cleverly found ways of exploiting 2.5 - 0.5 down in no time at all. Adrain was having what looked a good game on 3 against Gavyn but did'nt see what Gavyn had in mind and that resulted in 3.5-0.5 Newport must had been delighted with there nights work and Glyn too was to lose. to compound 4.5-0.5 defeat

A terrible night for us and one that over the board we never looked like getting anything from the only time we were level was when we sat down shocking performance. Sometimes we can lose matches and think that was unjust but none of that tonight.

But credit has to go to Newport they had to win to stay in pole position for the title and they did just that!
