Bye.

Wait you're still here? Well, ok then.

Welcome back to my blog, where I show you how bad I play.

The Coastal Virginia Open was from the 4th to the 5th of February in Norfolk, Virginia. It was 5 rounds, with the first round's time control being 1:15+10, and the rest at 1:30+10. I played in the open section, which was my only option. the only other sections were lower than my rating.

Round 1:

I played someone with the same name as a former World Champion.

Cool, I can now tell people I drew to Bobby Fischer.

Round 2:

I played another floored 2000. It was pretty much equal the whole game, so I won't have much commentary on this.

Round 3:

Before I show you the game, I want to write about something that happened just before the game.

So I was watching two of my friends play a casual blitz game, when this guy (probably mid-late teenager) walked up to me and said "Hey. Are you fifteen?" I didn't hear what number he said, so I asked "Sorry, what age?"  He repeated "fifteen" in an annoyed tone. I said no. Then he started walking away, saying "Dang it! I'm screwed." And he continued to ask other people if they were fifteen. No clue why.

My mom later informed me that she heard him saying to himself "This would be a perfect place for an explosion!" Hmm...

Anyway, in this round I was paired against another 2000, except they weren't floored. However, they did have two draws to lower rated players, so I was still hopeful for a good result.

Dang it. I should've looked longer at 35.Kf1, and probably would've seen it was wrong.

Round 4:

I was paired against one of the most active members of my chess club. I've played him several times so I assumed I knew what he was going to play, but he surprised me with something he's never played before.

Nice, that was an important win. I had to win to secure a rating increase.

Round 5:

I played another active member of my club.

Oh well. At least I'm still going up.

So I ended this tournament with a better feeling than I usually do. But I was expecting possibly better, because my online ratings have increased a good bit. Well, whatever. +22 isn't terrible.

My next blog should either be the team tournament in New Jersey or the Virginia Scholastic State Championships, depending on if I get too lazy by the time I'm done with the team tournament.

Thanks for reading, I hope you enjoyed.

If you choose to read a blog of mine, for your safety I have to suggest that you ignore the picture. And the games. And the words. But everything else is fine.
