2014 Sudbury Championship - Part 4 - Sunday
Sunday was a little tougher for me. I felt like I was 'in form' on Saturday, somehow a little less on Sunday.
My fourth round game was a very long, very hard fought draw where I never managed to get more than a small edge, didn't do a great job of protecting it, and ended up in a drawn rook endgame where both sides needed to be a little careful.
Round 5 I fell into an opening trap of some sort against a much lower rated player who was obviously very well prepared. I stopped to think way too late, realized I was at least very close to lost, and then outplayed my much lower rated opponent to a win. The tactics make the game very exciting to watch, but knowing I was busted early kinda sucks.
Anyways, here are the games...
In the end I finished the event with 4.5/5, winning clear first thanks to a last round loss by Michael Guignard to Steve Demmery. I should see a rating increase of around 10 points.
All in all a very fun event! Big thanks to everybody who played, especially Dr. Ralf Meyer for arranging the venue, NM Kiviaho for operating as organizer, and all the players who came from out of town, making the event all the more interesting!
I'm already looking forward to next year...
