Shirov and his "partisans"

Please look at the following position. It is from a game of super grandmaster level. Shirov, the white player, showed here much creativity


 

White has pushed very early his d-pawn till the seventh row. But now black threatens to interrupt the connection with that passed pawn through  Nd4 and eliminate it.-

Shirov decided to invade with two more pieces into black position before "closing of the frontier". Together with the passed pawn they will become partisans in enemy land!


 

Naturally it is clear that the fate of the partisans will decide about the result of the game. Let us look how the partisan story went on
