Rook activity in Endgame!
Rook activity is a very important factor in endgames. Here an illustrative example:
In this position Black is a pawn ahead, but his pawn structure is more or less "shattered"! But more interesting than this is here the activity of the white rook. It controls the open c-file and will soon come into black position. Black rook will be forced to accept a passive role with defending his queen side pawns.
The white rook activity, in contrary to the black rook passivity, became the decisive factor in this game. Next you can see, how white exploited his advantage of his active rook.The black one was later allowed to become active, but had to "pay" for it with the loss of two pawns
