Learning Chess: Lesson 2:

What's Check and Checkmate?

If you read Lesson 1, You know how to move the pieces.

And you know what the king is.

The style of the board i use is probably uncommon so i'll show you the basic version.

So this is our king. Lookin nice. But... You need to protect him at all costs, because trapping the king and having it in check at the same time is checkmate.

Checkmate is a chess term meaning the description above, and the player who was not trapped wins the game.

But first let's get into checking.

Knight to e5 is a check. This is because the king is under attack. So the king needs to escape.

Based on what you've learned so far, what is the safest check that eventually leads to White winning the game?

The answer is Bishop a6!!!
What next move chases Black's king from its pawns?
The answer is Rb8!!!
So you now know how to check but find this checkmate to prove you have completed lesson 2.
If you solved it,

CONGRATS!!!
You have completed Lesson 2.
