Be Gambit Gamer With These Ultra Aggressive Gambits: The Danish Gambit
It's another fine day at chess.com, and you are playing the same old, long, boring games where literally nothing happens.
Finally, you get very bored with that opening and come here browsing through the blogs to get anything interesting that could make your games more exciting.
Then you see this blog and pray ''please let this be the blog I'm searching for. I'm tired of searching through hundreds of blogs! Pleeeaaassse!''
Don't worry, you have got the blog you were searching for.
So,let's start!
Now, just to be clear, What exactly is a 'Gambit'?
A 'gambit' is a special type of opening, in which you sacrifice a bit of material to get positional advantage like fast development of pieces, Tough to avoid opening traps, very strong attack on king side etc.
So,How do you get to the Danish Gambit?
Danish gambit is worth learning because it occurs very commonly in chess games. Don't worry about it being not strong enough.
I have even used it at zonal level and did quite well.(The players there are as strong as 1500 rapid rating at chess.com).
Okay, below is the answer to your question:
Wait, also I forgot to tell this: Danish is a white side opening.
So,after getting to the position, what do you get?
Loads.
But, before that, here are a few things you need to remember:
- Try not to exchange your bishops as they are very active pieces.
- Always be on the lookout for sacrifices to open up your opponent's king.
- Don't hesitate to bring your queen early in the game, it's much needed to attack and is completely normal.
Now, I will give you 5 of the most common traps your opponents can fall into, in this gambit:
1. 5. ... d6 6.Nf3 Bg4??
If he doesn't hit the rook, we can hit his knight as we have more attackers. Also notice that the last move unleashes a double attack on the queen by our rook and black's h8 rook by our black bishop at b2.
4. 5. ... Bb4+ 6. Nd2 Nf6??
Another queen fork like the first two traps. Also, If white doesn't hit the bishop, we pin it by playing Ba3. After Bxa3 ,Nxe4. If black takes our bishop now, we reply with Qb3+, forking the king and bishop.
5. 5. ... d4 6. Bxd5 c6??
A classic 'destroying the defender' tactic. As you see, the black's queen has only one defender that is the king. So, we remove it by these checks and sacrifices.
Also if you're wondering, how do we get an advantage in trap number 1,2 and 4?
Black loses the right to castle and we can develop and attack black's king easily.
So, How do you defend as black against the Danish Gambit?
You will have to play the Schlechter Defense.
The Schlechter Defense is as follows:
Thank you!
