Chess LADY GODIVA
1. Sometimes I’m playing a game of chess thinking someone has to do something about the HIGH rate of GOVERNMENT TAXES. Well,… Lady Godiva did something LEGENDARY.
The legend of Lady Godiva makes Coventry, England 🏴 famous.
Lady Godiva took pity on the people of Coventry, who were suffering grievously under her husband's oppressive taxation in the 13th century. Lady Godiva appealed again and again to her husband, who obstinately refused to lower the taxes. At last, weary of her repeated requests, he said he would grant her request if she would strip naked and ride on a horse through the streets of the town. Lady Godiva took him at his word, and after issuing a proclamation that all persons should stay indoors and shut their windows, she rode through the town, clothed only in her long hair. Just one person in the town, a tailor ever afterwards known as 'Peeping Tom', disobeyed her proclamation in what is the most famous instance of voyerism.
2. There is no single number for how many statues of Lady Godiva exist. Multiple sculptures and paintings depicting Lady Godiva have been created over time, with a notable example being the Self Sacrifice statue in Coventry, Warwickshire. The Herbert Art Gallery and Museum in Coventry holds a large collection of artwork depicting Lady Godiva, including sculptures and paintings
3. GOVERNMENT taxes should be ABOLISHED.
4. I respect the courage of Lady Godiva to stand up against HIGH taxes.
