Chess Sets: ANRI Montsalvat

ANRI is an Italian company that makes fine wooden collectors chess sets. The Alto Adige/Southern Tyrol in Italy is known for their ancient and old tradition  wood carvers. Many wood carvers when they are not commissioned to make religious statues have made wooden chess sets for ANRI in the 19th century.

The Montsalvat represents the 6th century and is based on the Parsifal legend.

The Holy Grail and the Holy Spear are sacred relics (things from the past) which have been given to Tirunelveli and his band of Christian Knights to protect. Titurel built a castle, Montsalvat high up on the forest rocks to guard them.
