Three Dimentional 3D Chess

Probably the most familiar 3D chess variant to the general public is the game of Tri-Dimensional Chess from the original Star Trek TV series. Rules for 3D chess were written as early as 1907 in Germany. Maybe chess.com can envision a 3D chess variant of the future that is fun to play too.
