How to evaluate your position
One of the most important things in a chess game is to know how it is going. You do that by evaluateing your position that you have in the game. Many people thinks that the only thing that counts in a game are the points, or the material advantage. In this blog post, i will show you 5 easy steps to know how to evaluate your postion in a chess game.
1. King Safety
The most important thing in chess is the kings safety. It does't matter if you are a queen up. If your king isn't safe, you will probably lose the game. Try to find out who has the better king safety in this position.
For me, it is white that has a more safe king. Blacks king has a open line infront of him, and the most of whites pieces are looking for him. This is what white could do with the black king:
2. Material
When you have checked the king safety, you got to check the material. In this position, who has more material?
Well, it is white. They have only one singel pawn more than black. Look here:
3. Piece activity
When you have looked at king safety and material, you got to check the piece activity. That means that you need to check: ''Who has the most active pieces that can attack and do the most things on the board?''. In this position, who has the most piece activity? White or black?
I think that white has more piece activity. Look how the black pieces are blocking eachother, while the white pieces can reach and attack easily.
I may be hard to understand what i want to say with all the arrows but, trust me, white has a better piece activity.
4. Pawn structure
The pawn structure is very important in the endgame, but also in the rest of the game. Remember that if you have a bad pawn structure, you often have a weak king. One important part of ''Pawn structure'' is pawn islands. Here you have a video from @ChessKid where they are explain pawn islands.

5. Space advantage
Space advantage is simply the area that your pieces are on, or control. Who has the most space advantage in this position?
You could say that white will win this game. They have:
- Better King Safety
- More Material
- Better Piece Activity
- Better Pawn Structure
- More Space Advantage
White will win!
